Erin Hyman

Miss Erin has been a full-time teacher at the Shelley Shearer School of Dance since 1996, teaching all genres of dance with a particular specialization in Ballet and Pointe.
Miss Erin has been part of the Shelley Shearer family since the very beginning, joining the school as a student on its opening day in 1986. After completing her personal ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) Ballet examinations, she went on to graduate from the school’s Teacher Training Program. She has continued to expand her professional training through instructor courses, workshops, and seminars with many recognized institutions such as the National Ballet of Canada and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
A passionate educator and accomplished choreographer, Miss Erin excels in creating choreography for both competitive dancers and recital performances. Her choreography and teaching have earned numerous Provincial, National, and International accolades, including a Gold Medal for a Children’s Group at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Ballet Championships in New York; Gold and Silver Medals for Junior Groups and a Gold Medal for a Children’s Duo at the IDO World Ballet Championships in Niagara Falls; as well as numerous Ballet Adjudicator’s Choice Awards, Choreography Awards, scholarships, and Overall Performance Awards across Solo, Duet, Trio, and Group categories.
Throughout her teaching career, Miss Erin has had the privilege of mentoring countless dancers as they have grown within the school. Many of her students have continued their training at professional performing arts universities and gone on to pursue careers in dance companies, theatre, film, and television.
Erin believes deeply in the importance of quality dance training within a positive, motivating, and nurturing environment. Having spent decades learning, teaching, and growing alongside generations of dancers at Shelley Shearer, she is proud to continue sharing her passion for dance and looks forward to inspiring the generations still to come.
