Hannah Macrae

Instructor

Hannah MacRae has been dancing since the age of three, beginning her training at Shelley Shearer School of Dance. Throughout her years as a dancer, she has trained extensively in ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, lyrical, hip hop, and musical theatre. Her passion for dance has given her the opportunity to train, compete, and perform in a variety of settings both nationally and internationally.

Throughout her competitive dance career, Hannah attended numerous competitions and conventions, including NUVO, JUMP, RADIX, VIEW Dance Challenge, Canadian National Dance Championships, and the Manitoba Dance Festival. She has had the opportunity to compete alongside dancers from some of the largest and most competitive studios in the United States. Throughout her training, Hannah has received numerous scholarships, awards, and titles, including many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall awards. She has also been recognized as a Breakout Artist winner and has been selected as a finalist at every convention she has attended.

Hannah furthered her dance education at Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson University, where she completed a year in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance: Dance program. During her time there, she expanded her training through West African dance, foundational and vernacular jazz, contemporary, urban choreography, ballet, and a variety of modern dance techniques. Her modern training included Graham, Limón, Horton, and Cunningham techniques, with a particular focus on Graham and Limón.

For the past five years, Hannah has choreographed at Shelley Shearer School of Dance, working with dancers ranging from 6 to 20 years old. Teaching and choreography have become some of the most meaningful parts of her relationship with dance. She loves creating an environment where students feel supported in exploring their creativity, developing confidence, and discovering their own unique quality of movement. One of her favourite parts of teaching is watching dancers recognize their own abilities and grow into artists with an individual voice and style.

Alongside her work in dance, Hannah is completing the final years of her studies in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg. Her experiences in both dance and education continue to shape her approach as an instructor and choreographer, with an emphasis on creativity, encouragement, and meaningful connections with her students. Looking toward the future, Hannah is excited to continue furthering her dance education and expanding her knowledge as both a dancer and choreographer. She looks forward to continuing to grow as an educator and artist while sharing her lifelong love of dance with the next generation.
