Lindsay Nelko has established herself as a choreographer and creative genius whose conceptual vision and execution has moved audiences around the world. Unique, diverse and theatrical, her work stands out as high impact and extremely powerful. Lindsay has had the honor and privilege to be mentored by one of the industry’s leading Directors/Choreographers, Brian Friedman. With his support and guidance Lindsay’s work has become varied and always inspiring. He has said, “She has an insane gift.”
Lindsay has been a Choreographer on Season 10 of FOX’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, USA. She also appeared on FOX’s hit show THE X FACTOR as an associate choreographer. She was the associate choreographer on the NBC/Universal movie American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky based on the 2013 American Girl Doll of the year. Lindsay’s choreography has played a critical role in The PULSE On Tour conventions throughout North America. They invited her to show her choreography to their attendees as an example of top professional choreography and of what the dancers should aspire to.
From 2010-2012, she won four “Choreographer’s Pick” awards by The PULSE’s all-star panel of judges, more than any other choreographer in the past few years. In July 2012, she won the 2012-2013 “Pulse Featured Choreographer of the Year” award at their New York City Finale. In August 2013, Lindsay was selected as one of the TOP FINALISTS for the prestigious 2013 CAPEZIO A.C.E AWARDS in New York City and was awarded 2nd Runner Up. This award along with prize money gives Lindsay the opportunity to put on a show in New York City August 2014.
Lindsay has represented her country of Canada as a choreographer at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Dance Championships in both Germany, where her choreography helped team Canada win the silver medal in 2010; and Poland, where her choreography helped team Canada win the silver and bronze medals in 2011.
Lindsay’s style is a fusion of ballet, modern and jazz techniques. Growing up in Winnipeg she trained for 17 years in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap, Musical Theatre and Modern at her mother’s dance studio, Shelley Shearer School of Dance. Lindsay holds her Advanced ISTD Ballet certification. Lindsay’s Performing Arts Education continued at UCLA Performing Arts in Los Angeles California, in the Theatre, Film and Television Department and New York University Tisch School of the Arts, CAP 21 Musical Theatre Program.
Since 2003, Lindsay has taught students of all ages and is well known for her attention to detail, technique, musicality and artistic expression. She incorporates real life experiences as well as her acting and theatre training to tell a story through her movement. Her years of teaching and coaching experience enable her to motivate and bring excellence out of her team of dancers. This ability is key in making her pieces come to life.
Lindsay is a young, fresh talent with an amazingly natural ability to create breath-taking dance pieces; there is no doubt that she is one of the hottest up and coming choreographers.
