      <image:title>Miss Kendra Neufeld - Kendra Neufeld Instructor</image:title>
<image:caption>Kendra Neufeld has been dancing at the Shelley Shearer School of Dance since the age of four. Growing up at the studio, she trained in a wide range of dance disciplines including ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, musical theatre. She is grateful for the opportunities the studio has offered her, including workshop learning, partaking in conventions, and competing with the invitational program at elite competitions (CNDC, Move, MDF, Thunderstruck). Musical Theatre specifically sparked interest in Kendra, where she trained as a soloist, in addition to working extensively with private vocal coaches, and completion of piano and vocal examinations with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Kendra began teaching dance at the age of seventeen, focusing predominantly on pre-school and tap levels. With Kendra’s admiration for fine arts, she pursued a post-secondary career majoring in theatre. In tandem, she pursued an integrated education degree with University of Winnipeg specializing in arts education. Kendra hopes to learn, teach, and bring music opportunities to the youth in the school system. Kendra is devoted to her students, and continues to instill her passion for dance at pre-school dance levels.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Creative Dance - Creative Dance For 4 Year Olds</image:title>
<image:caption>Designed to help develop coordination, rhythm and musicality for 4 year olds, Creative Dance is a structured program that encourages the use of your child’s vast imagination and creativity. Through this program, we help students gain self-confidence and self-esteem and also give them the opportunity to cooperate and work with others. They learn basic dance movements, such as marching, skipping, galloping and pointing their toes. The creative nature of the class also helps the students learn about the different types and styles of music they can dance to. The 10 month program culminates in our annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall where every student has the opportunity to perform and shine like the star they are.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Tap - Tap</image:title>
<image:caption>Tap dance is distinct style of dance. Tap focuses on intricate footwork to create rhythms and sounds made with metal taps on the soles of the shoes. Tap is known as an American art form with influences from Ireland, England, Africa and even the West Indies. Tap is like playing drums with your feet, requiring its students to develop fine motor skills, balance and control, Tap is a challenge for both the mind and the body. Like other forms of dance, Tap is continually evolving and exploring itself within the genre. In level 1 Tap/Jazz, beginner students experience the perfect introduction to Tap while learning beginner Jazz steps to incorporate into their movements. As students become more advanced they’re able to create faster and more intricate sounds and rhythms. If you or your child loves to make noise or follow the beat with your feet, then Tap is for you. Every student’s year culminates in the annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. We’ll see you on stage!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Musical Theatre - Musical Theatre</image:title>
<image:caption>Designed to develop a complete triple threat, Musical Theatre combines singing, acting and dancing into one electrifying class. This is a class for the most uninhibited entertainers who love to perform. Our professional teachers instruct students on how to excel and reach their full potential. Early level students are taught how to support their voices with proper breathing techniques, practice musical scales to develop pitch and do exercises to help vocal control. In the acting portion of the program students explore various characters, dialects and accents and are helped to develop stage presence, confidence and characterization. As students progress our instructors work on further developing their skills by improving pitch, tone, enunciation, projection, breathe control and much more. We take great care in selecting challenging and age appropriate Musical Theatre excerpts for each class. The season culminates in our year end performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. We’ll see you on stage!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Prep Steps - Prep Steps For 5 Year Olds</image:title>
<image:caption>The Prep Steps program is our opportunity to challenge your 5 year old by exposing them to not just one style of dance, but four. Uniquely developed at the Shelley Shearer School of Dance over three decades, Prep Steps offers a glimpse into pre-primary Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Tap. Each one hour class is divided into three modules with one dance discipline taught in each. This is designed to keep your child’s attention while also enabling them to focus on the challenges provided within each style. In pre-primary Ballet, students learn posture, muscle control and awareness. It is the first gentle introduction into the art of classical Ballet. Intro to Jazz exposes the student to this more contemporary dance style using music that spans the 20th century to today’s current hits. Musical Theatre is an exploration into not only dancing, but singing and acting. Students learn basic singing skills such as breathing from their diaphragm and acting exercises such as miming. Intro to Tap is not only fun for the feet, but also a challenge for the mind. The 10 month program culminates in our annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. At the performance, students in Prep Steps combine all of the disciplines explored with their Tap shoes in tow.</image:caption>

She completed dance exams in tap, jazz, and ballet, and also trained in musical theatre and hip hop. Jennifer has been co-teaching competitive tap classes and choreographing solos for over 15 years. Her soloists and groups have won various awards and she is continuously impressed by her students’ work ethic and love of dance. Outside of the dance studio, Jennifer works at the Health Sciences Centre Rehabilitation Hospital as an Occupational Therapist. Due to her love of dance and her many wonderful and memorable years at Shelley Shearer, she has been unable to fully retire from the dance world just yet. Jennifer continues to find inspiration in the dancers that she works with and the teachers that she has learned from along the way. She looks forward to another great year of dance!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Storybook Ballet - Storybook Ballet For 3 Year Olds</image:title>
<image:caption>Our Storybook Ballet class is designed with the capabilities, imagination and creativity of your 3 year old in mind. We know that 3 year olds are not yet ready for a structured dance class. What Storybook Ballet offers is an introduction into early dance steps and skills using fun and innovative exercises. They learn basic dance movements, such as skipping, galloping and hopping on one foot. Gross motor coordination is improved. We use your 3 year olds imagination, curiosity and uninhibited natures as they learn to express themselves through dance. With limited class sizes, your child will always have the individual attention they need. Comfortable seating and large viewing windows let you watch the class while giving your child the comfort of knowing you’re there. The 10 month program culminates in our annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. At 3 years old they get their first opportunity to perform on the main stage and under the bright lights and they usually steal the show.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Hip Hop - Hip Hop</image:title>
<image:caption>Hip Hop is not only a type of music and dance but it is also a cultural movement. Since it first emerged in New York City in the 1970s, Hip Hop has spread all over the world and captured the imagination of kids and adults alike. Hip Hop as a style of dance is full of very urban and contemporary movements. Done in street clothes as opposed to dance clothes it is a more natural style of dance that takes in everything from old school Hip Hop moves such as popping, locking, ticking and waving to break dancing and krumping and whatever new styles emerge. At the Shelley Shearer School of Dance beginner students explore Hip Hop through various exercises that showcase all that Hip Hop has to offer. Classes are available for all skill levels and age groups. In each class students emulate some of the dance moves they see in music videos and popular shows, but in an age appropriate way. Being appropriate, but also fun is very important to us and we ensure that all music and movements taught in each class are reviewed beforehand. Students also learn many of the other skills that Hip Hop develops, such as coordination and musicality. In addition to regular classes, students are offered workshops from famous Hip Hop dancers and choreographers which help their ability to pick up and learn new styles. Every student’s year culminates in the annual performances in June at the Winnipeg Centennial Concert Hall. We’ll see you on stage.</image:caption>

Your child learns to count and recognize different styles of music and incorporate steps by using props, stories and games. In recent years, tap has become her passion and main area of focus. She finds tap to be an artistic outlet, allowing dance to be a form of expression. Taylor has been a part of the Invitational program competing for 9 years and still continues to tap. Taylor is excited for another year of dance and she hopes to inspire young dancers to come to love dance as much as she does!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Mr Kerwin Parada - Kerwin Parada Instructor</image:title>
<image:caption>Kerwin was a late bloomer and did not start dancing until he was 14/15 years old. He originally started off as a self taught breakdancer along with his brother and cousins. As he went on to high school, he found his love for all styles of dance when he joined the Sisler Dance Program and the elite group, Sisler's Most Wanted. With SMW, Kerwin has danced in various styles such as hip hop, contemporary, jazz and lyrical. Aside from SMW, Kerwin also danced in community groups with Random Dance Crew and then became part of SIKAT Dance Company in 2014. SIKAT has given Kerwin the opportunity to compete all over North America in cities such as San Diego, Orlando, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver and Los Angeles. He has also had the chance to represent Canada with SIKAT at World of Dance Finals 2016 in LA. Kerwin now has developed into a leader within the hip hop dance community and is helping lead SIKAT and their new generation of dancers to strive to be their best. He's organized and produced their annual end of year show called Coalescence which has now sold out for 2 straight years! Kerwin has also been a part of local artists music video projects, dance projects and as well as Nuit Blanche 2022 as a performer. He is very excited to continue his teaching journey with Kickit and is very excited to share what he's learned from his experiences to all of his students.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Miss Kaleigh Smith - Kaleigh Smith Instructor</image:title>
<image:caption>Kaleigh began dancing at Kickit Dance Studio at the age of four and has since trained in a wide variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, tap, acro, Bollywood, musical theatre, and hip hop. Since 2021, she has focused her training primarily on hip hop, developing a deep love for the style. Throughout her years at Kickit, she has competed at multiple competitions and has been recognized with scholarships and awards. She is also a member of the hip hop crew Sikat, with whom she has competed at hip hop competitions across Canada. Beyond performing, she has travelled throughout the country to take classes from renowned choreographers, further expanding her knowledge and passion for the art form. As she has transitioned from dancer to assist and now into teaching/choreographing, Kaleigh has become especially passionate about sharing her love of dance with the next generation. Her teaching style focuses on inspiring confidence, creativity, and growth in her students. Outside the studio, she loves to travel—most recently backpacking through Southeast Asia for three months—and looks forward to many more adventures both in dance and in life.</image:caption>
